In the late 19th century, this area was founded by Irish and Eastern European immigrants after the Great Chicago Fire. Today, it is now primarily inhabited by immigrants from Mexico. This influx began in the 1970s and has continued.
About Little Village
The neighborhood is commonly called the Mexico of the Midwest and is home to a Mexican Independence Day celebration every September. The population is a significant 79,000 and the area is 4.4 square miles – one of the largest communities within Chicago. El Faro offers a number of vegetarian options amongst the meat-based Mexican favorites. La Casa De Samuel has a lot of exotic meat on the menu, including alligator and rattlesnake.
