||East Lansing, Michigan may not seem like a hot travel spot to most people. It doesn’t have sunny skies, sandy beaches, or any of the usual tourist attractions. But it does have Michigan State University, which every year draws students from all over the world.|
The Capital Area Transportation Authority operates a bus run out to the airport and into downtown East Lansing 7 days a week. Student fare for the bus is only 60 cents. If you have family coming in for the weekend, book them a hotel and let the shuttle service provide the ride. Quality Suites, Quality Inn University, and Best Western all offer complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport.
Michigan State University
As impressive as the numbers and academics are, Michigan State’s campus life is just as impressive. It has 25 varsity squads, most famously its football team, who were the 2014 Rose Bowl Champions, and its basketball team, which has made 17 straight NCAA appearances. It also has one of the largest intramural programs in the nation.
For the more arts minded, the campus has an art museum, live theater, the MSU museum, a planetarium, and 7.5 acres of horticultural gardens. There are over 600 registered groups on campus, covering a vast array of subjects and interests, so no matter what you want to do, you can find like-minded people to help.
Getting your shopping down couldn’t be easier in East Lansing. There are over 185 businesses right in the downtown area, convenient to walk or bike to from anywhere. From groceries to clothing to sporting goods, you can find it all right in the city. There are great places to eat as well, from cozy little bistros to packed sports bars to elegant restaurants. When you’re tired of the dining hall, East Lansing has whatever you are craving.
