About Bridgeport
The history dates back to the 1830s, where it was home to a number of Irish-Americans. As people came in to build the Erie Canal, they then chose to settle in Chicago. Over the years, other groups moved in, including Italians, Lithuanians, and even the Polish. The community is also the birthplace to five of the mayors of Chicago, including Kelly, Kennelly, and Daley.

While you’re here you will want to see the First Lutheran Church of the Trinity. This church is built in 1865, it’s the oldest church in Bridgeport. There’s also a community center that holds a number of music and art events throughout the year. Another great attraction is McGuane Park. This is one of the parks built for leisure, offering a number of facilities for baseball, tennis, swimming, and other sports. Bridgeport is also home to the Ling Shen Ching Tze temple which houses a number of Buddha statues and provides culture to the community. While you are here also check out Union Stockyard Gate. Built in 1879, it is a symbol of the stockyards that have vanished over the years.
