About Winnipeg Airport
YWG serves as the only airport in the province of Manitoba that serves as a commercial international airport. Airports throughout the rest of the region serve only domestic and general aviation flights. The airport is also one of eight airports that the United States houses a building to clear passengers for travel across the border.

Given the isolated location of the airport, YWG makes the choice of international airports in the area very slim. This makes it the primary point of entry for the entire province for international flight. Nonstop flights depart and arrive on a daily basis to destinations all over the globe.

Opening in 1928 in honor of noted aviator Fred J. Stevenson, Winnipeg International became Canada’s first international airport. In 1984, the original main terminal building was renovated to better suit the needs of the international community on the airports long journey of growth. 1998 was the year that a hotel was built across from the terminal to allow passengers a means for leisure.
