About Westchester County Center
The Westchester County Center was built and opened to the public in 1930. This art-deco style building is designed to seat 5000 people for indoor events. It has hosted many notable entertainment events, including such greats as Judy Garland and Kenny Rogers and is currently the home of the Westchester Knicks, which is the farm team for the New York Knicks.
The facility is also used for conventions and can be arranged to suit the needs of any convention. There are several different areas of the building that can be rented individually for smaller groups or events, although the entire facility can be rented as well if larger space is needed. The main hall is where the large events such as the basketball games are held, but you can also rent the exhibit hall, as well as the meeting room and the small theater, which is suited for dance recitals and similarly small-scale events.
The county center is also able to provide staff for special events at reasonable rates. You can also rent basic supplies from the center, like tables and projectors, which can be set up by the county center prior to your event. The facility can host birthday parties and weddings as well as large events.
White Plains, where the Westchester County Center is located, is home to six institutes of higher learning, most notably Fordham University’s graduate school programs, which allow access to upper level degrees in the fields of business administration, education, social service, and religion. Other educational institutes in the city include Pace University’s law school and graduate school, as well as the College of Westchester.
White Plains is also home to the Westchester Philharmonic. The city also has a farmer’s market which is held in the Westchester County Center during the winter and spring and outdoors the rest of the year. There is also a smaller theater in town that hosts traveling shows like Broadway shows or concerts. The Jacob Purdy House, located in town, is a historic structure that was used by George Washington as his headquarters during and immediately following the Revolutionary War.
