About Texas State University
Originally established as the Southwest Texas State Normal School, 303 students were greeted at its freshly opened doors in 1903. These students were driven to be educated in order to become teachers, as this was the focus of the college when it was created. Since its beginnings, this university has grown astronomically in proportion. Now the largest in the Texas State University System and firth largest university in the entire state it is the educational choice of over 34,000 students each year.

Texas State University no longer caters to those looking to only become teachers, but currently offers programs in Music, Criminal Justice, and Geography that are recognized across the country. Texas State University is unique in that it is the only Texas university to have a President of the United States among its alumni; President Lyndon B. Johnson was part of the 1930 graduating class.
