Things to do in Skagway
Take in the beauty of the mountain peaks that surround Skagway. On your first day you may want to go over to the visitor’s center to take one of their walking tours to acquaint yourself with the city. They can point out many points of interest and things to do around Skagway. Most tourist come by way of the cruise ship and visit the many historical buildings that detail the gold rush era or to go hiking.

Stock up on all of your hiking needs at the You Say Tomato natural whole food store. They have fresh bread and produce. Anything you need to nourish yourself before and after a hike. What’s a visit to Alaska if you aren’t going to enjoy fresh seafood? Skagway fish Company serves great fish and chips, and Alaskan king crab. The Red Onion Saloon has that old time gold rush look and feel. You just know your drink is going to come flying in your hand from down the bar. If you want to eat somewhere a little more upscale try the Stowaway Café. Enjoy Alaskan Seafood as well as smoked meats, steaks, salads, homemade soups, and great desserts.

Hotels near SGY
You can stay at one of the Alaskan hostels like the Alaskan Sojoun hostel or the Skagway Home Hostel. Both are co-ed and people that want to use either as their accommodation should call ahead for any provisions that should be met while there. For instance some require everyone to pitch in on the chores while others may have a curfew.

Many people don’t like the restrictions imposed by hostels or the fact that the sleeping quarters are so close; if you are one of those people look for a lodge or bed and breakfast in the area.
