Oxnard Airport (OXR) is located in Oxnard, California right on the edge of downtown. It has about 55 thousand airport operations each year that include general aviation, air taxis, and charter services.

Currently the airport does not operate commercial passenger service. Oxnard itself has a population of about 203 thousand people ranking it number 19 in terms of population in California and it is ranked as one of the safest cities in America because the violent crime rate is below the national average. The city is just 30 miles west of Los Angeles. Oxnard significance lies in the fact that the city is a major transportation hub to most of southern California.

Oxnard is just north of The Port of Hueneme. The port is integral to the import/export business with automobiles, fruits and vegetables, and other products transported in and out daily. Channel Island Harbor is also situated in Oxnard. It is the gateway to the Channel Islands and the Ventura Harbor is not far away either.

Things to do in Oxnard
Ride the Ferry, whale watch, fish, and take in the natural beauty of the Harbors and Channel island National Park. Whale watching is usually seasonal (December to April) but usually include 28 species of whales and dolphins. There are many festivals that are held in Oxnard: Strawberry Festival (May), Salsa Festival (July), Fine Arts festival (July), Harbor Landing Beach Festival (August), Festival of Sail (August), Independent Film Festival (September), and the Multicultural Festival (October).

Oxnard Restaurants
Start your day off at one of the locations that was voted best breakfast in America by Esquire Magazine, Mrs. Olson’s Coffee Hut. It’s down the street from Hollywood Beach, some of the local favorites include the humongous breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros, or French toasts that‘s served with strawberries. When you are in a town where most of the life centers on the water you have to try the seafood, because you know it’s going to be fresh. The Whale Tail serves fresh oysters on the half-shell as well as the biggest buffalo shrimp you can find. They have brunch on Sunday’s that includes champagne. Upscale Italian cuisine is available at Capistano’s located inside the Embassy Suites (see below). They serve an authentic osso buco, and a great seared ahi tuna.

Oxnard Hotel Shuttles
The Embassy Suites is a great place to stay with the beach right outside the hotel. Guest enjoy a free made to order breakfast and each room comes with flat screen tv’s, some have a balcony or a patio, coffee maker, microwave, and free Wi-Fi. There are many national hotel chains available some beach front some not: Best Western, Hampton Inn, Residence Inn, and Homewood Suites just to name a few. Camping on the beach is also a great way to spend a night in Oxnard, but there won’t be a lot of privacy at the McGrath State Beach Campground.
