Manila Airport Transportation

As the capital of the Philippines, there’s a lot to do at the heart of Manila, even more if you’ve got nowhere to be. Get a sedan to explore the region with casual ease, getting from the bright lawns of Rizal Park to the gothic-style architecture of San Sebastian Church. Bring the whole family along for the fun by reserving an SUV instead, heading to cool riverside locales like the Arroceros Forest Park and the iconic Fort Santiago property in total comfort. History buffs in search of their next lesson will find there’s no shortage in the Intramuros neighborhood, especially with a local personal driver at their side. If you’re looking to get to the Philippine International Convention Center for an event, get a taxi to make things quick, or go with the luxury of a limousine to make it all worthwhile.

Manila Airport Shuttles
Manila shuttle to the airport
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport serves the Manila, Philippines metro area. The airport is commonly referred to as the Manila International Airport.

Any number of shuttles, trains, buses, Jeepney modified US Army jeeps and taxis are readily available to book. Taxis should be booked in the airport or online to ensure a ride in an official metered taxi.

Free transportation is available between the terminals but may not be easy to locate. A ride in a Jeepney will get you where you need to be within the complex and is quite an experience. The standard compliment of rental cars is also available at the terminal if that is your preference, although driving in Manila is best left to those who have done it before.

About Manila Airport
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport takes its name from Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr., a Filipino Senator that was killed at the airport in 1983. The airport is located a fairly easy 4.5 miles from the capital city and transportation to and from the airport is readily available. The Ninoy Aquino International Airport is the primary point of entry for international travelers to the Philippines. The airport’s assigned International Air Transport Association code is MNL

The airport saw nearly 33 million passengers pass through its gates in 2013 alone; approximately 15 million were on international flights. Numerous cargo carriers also operate out of MNL and combined to move approximately 450,000 metric tons of cargo every year.

MNL makes use of four terminals to handle the massive passenger volume. A fifth terminal currently is being added to expand the airport’s impressive capacity. All international flights arrive at Terminal 1 and Terminal 4 and handle all domestic flights. Terminal 1 is an older facility, which is usually very hot and very crowded. The terminal can be confusing for first time visitors. It is this dubious triple threat of issues that leads some to believe the terminal is among the worst in all of Asia. The airport does offer Wi-Fi service in Terminal 1 & 2 VIP lounges. Standard (and non-standard) ground transportation options are plentiful at the terminal exits.

Hotels near Manila
The Manila area provides travelers with a wide variety of budget friendly and luxury hotels and resorts from which to choose. Some popular choices include: the Manila Marriott Hotel, the Hyatt City of Dreams Manila, the Nichols Airport Hotel, and the Henry Hotel Manila. Food and drink choices are plentiful in each terminal and the airport also boasts a huge 4 level shopping mall, if the urge were to strike. Other services include ATMs, postal service, money exchange and telephones located throughout the terminals.
