About Liberia Airport
It is named after the Costa Rican President that served from 1974 to 1978. Liberia itself is the capital of the Guanacaste province and the largest. It has a population of approximately 63 thousand people.

Things to do in Liberia
Hike the trails, view the active volcanoes, see the waterfalls and wildlife at the Roncon de la Vieja National Park. You can arrange shuttle service roundtrip from Hotel Liberia. If you drive you will pay an additional $2 to use the private road to the park. There you can take an Adventure Tour which can include zip lines, horseback riding, white water tubing, hot and volcanic mud springs, and hikes to craters.

In the park you will see many animals in the natural habitat like the Howle Monkey, White-throated Magpie-Jay, the black iguana and the Turquoise-brrowed Motmot. Both the Museo de Guanacaste and Museo de Sabaneo are located here. Liberia is also close to many Pacific Coast beaches like the Playa del Coco, Playa Tamarindo and the Playa Hermosa. South of Guanacaste visit the Nicoya Peninsula it’s a surfers paradise.

Liberia Restaurants
You will find many national food chains in Liberia including Burger King, Church’s, Subway, Pizza Hut, and Papa John’s. Baulas named after the sea turtles that lay their eggs on the beach is also the name of a restaurant that serves the best chicken burritos and beer that you can find. They also have karaoke as long as there are willing participants. If you are on the hunt for a good spot with Wi-Fi try Café Liberia, their coffee is not so bad. They also offer soups and Panini-style sandwiches as well as salads, quiches, and crepes.

Hotels near LIR
The Four Seasons, the Hilton, and the Westin are all 30 to 45 minutes from the airport. The Hilton Gardens Inn near the airport has LCD TV’s, swimming pools, and a modern day fitness room. The desk will help you with car rentals also. There is also a Hilton Resort and Spa with access to the beach. The Four Seasons is about 40 minutes from the airport and it has a golf course that was named one of the top 50 in the world. If you are looking for an economic stay Hotel Guanacaste is your best bet. It is clean, close to the bus, and has Internet access.
