Following recent decisions by Vietnamese authorities, a new International Airport will be constructed to replace the current Tan Son Airport. The airport will be built some 30 miles from Saigon and will have the capacity to handle the Airbus A380. The first terminal will be completed in 2020 and will have an annual capacity of 20 million passengers and the second stage will be completed by 2035 providing the airport with three terminals as well a cargo terminal estimated to handle over five million metric tons of cargo annually. The project is worth $8 billion.
SGN serves as a hub for Vietnam Airlines and a popular destination for other large regional and international carriers like Singapore Airlines, All Nippon Airlines, Continental Airlines as well low-cost carrier airlines.
