Friday Harbor Airport abbreviated FHR is located on San Juan Island, Washington. The Microsoft Flight Simulator is run from this airport and only Kenmore Air and San Juan Airlines have flights from the airport. There are multiple Islands in the area but San Juan Island has the largest population.

You’ll need to take a ferry, boat, or flight to get on and off the island. The Victoria Clipper Ferry offers service on Friday and Saturday’s. They operate passenger only ferries. The Washington State DOT offers free ferry rides to certain locations; you’ll need to verify if you’re starting location is one that is offered at no charge. There is limited fixed route service around the island. They also offer guided tours. Moped rentals and other scooters and electric bikes are popular on the island.

Things to do in Friday Harbor
Go to the Whale Museum to learn more about the great animals. Go on an activist ship at The Sea Shepherd Gallery, it’s from Whale Wars and Sharkwater. Take a tour from a biologist and learn about seals, eagles, whales and other animals on the Orca Whale Watching from Sea Kayaks. Bird watch with author and biologist Mark Lewis. Tours are offered for half a day, full day, or a couple of days. Visit the location where Free Willy was filmed, Herb’s Tavern and have karaoke every Wednesday.

Friday Harbor Restaurants
Enjoy Pacific cuisine served with international flair at CoHo. The use fresh ingredients the owner has written a couple of cookbooks. Enjoy a good burger at a burger joint, Vic’s Drive in. Have fish and chips at the Hungry Clam, its greasy but it’s still good. They also have a few good beers. Go to the Friday Harbor Laboratories Dining hall, they have sandwiches, salads, and other yummy cafeteria type foods are on the menu.

Hotels near FHR
One block from the ferry on First Street you can stay at the Bird Rock Hotel. They offer a gourmet breakfast for their guest and you can get a free beach cruiser bicycle for the day. The Bird Rock is a sister property of the Earthbox Inn and Spa so guest at both hotels can use the Earthbox’s indoor heated pool. Earthbox is resort motel. They have a full service spa, Wi-Fi, and they also offer a free beach cruiser. If you’re looking for a shared living space the Wafarers Rest offers private rooms that sleep up to 6 with a shared bathroom. The dorm rooms have 6 twin beds. There are 2 kitchens with dining tables and a covered porch.
