The Downtown area has many restaurants, galleries, and shops that are easy to access by foot. There are trolley tours that will help you reach more destinations if you don’t have a car. There is also the Chile Line bus service.

Taos Regional Airport (TSM) is located in Taos, New Mexico. New Mexico Airlines has tried to have passenger flights out of the airport but the FAA has not approved the plan; it’s been on hold since 2008.

About Taos Airport
The Taos airport has approximately 13 thousand operations that consist of general aviation, air taxis, as well as military activity. Taos itself is situated on the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. More than 5 thousand people live in the area. It’s about 2 hours outside of Santa Fe. Taos is known for its skiing and American Indian heritage.

Taos is noted for being the best ski destination in all of the Southwest. If you are a beginner these may not be the slopes for you head out to either Angel Fire or Red River for beginner slopes.

Once the snow melts there are great opportunities for mountain hiking or biking. Some of these areas pose a avalanche hazard during the winter but as the spring sets in Wheeler Peak is one of the best places for a mountain adventure. There are also many opportunities to experience the Rio Grande River, the Rio Chama, and the Arkansas River in Colorado. Many companies offer tours, cruises, river runs, kayaking and more.

Taos Restaurants
Enjoy pizza at Taos Pizza Outback. It may not be New York Style pizza but it is pretty good. Michael’s Kitchen serves breakfast all day and they have a nice little bakery. Michaels also serves sandwiches, hamburgers, and hot dogs for lunch for dinner you can get Sirloin Steak, Chicken Fried Steak, as well as fish and chips. Up and down Paseo Del Pueblo Sur you will find many chain fast food restaurants like McDonalds, Wendy’s, and Burger King just to name a few.

Hotels near TSM
The Sun God Lodge is a boutique hotel that is low priced and has amenities like Wifi, cable TV, a large grass courtyard with BBQ grills. The rooms have a southwestern décor. Burch Street Casitas (casitas means small houses) offers art classes and 550 square feet rooms. These little houses are very spacious and come with everything you need except the food, you’ll need to purchase that yourself. Taos is full of hotels chains as well like Days Inn, Quality Inn, Super 8, and Hampton Inn.
