A quiet fixture of Argentina’s off-shore Falkland Islands, Port Howard is a small community of sheep herders along the lower slopes of Mount Maria. Split into West and East Island, visitors arriving by cruise ship will find themselves navigating through a beautiful and narrow strait center that leads to the drop off point along West Falkland Island. Smaller boats as well as local ferry pontoons can offer transfers to East Falkland, travels through Port Howard’s handful of roads navigable through more private transfers, whether it be through a sedan, van or SUV, each great for discovering scenic coastline drives, or a wide variety of convenient meet-and-greet services that include modest arrivals via local personal drivers who know overlooked village corners, as well as taxis that can offer fast drop offs to one of many scenic beaches along Queen Charlotte Bay.

Upon arrival, discover all the dual islands have to offer, experiencing the closest landmarks from the cruise port first. These include Alexandra Wood on the north side, and festive souvenirs at Port Howard Shop. Enjoy a quaint afternoon ride across narrow inlets, bays and sounds that surround the two islands via the small settlement’s Port Howard Ferry Terminal as well, home to a single boat line that takes an especially scenic route through the region’s unique geology. In East Falkland, cool landmarks include the walkable Bodie Creek Suspension Bridge, as well as cool cafe views of the local penguin community from the Bluff Cove Lagoon Penguin Tour. And furthest east on East Falkland rest a small collection of historic landmarks in Ross City, including the Falkland Islands Museum as well as the National Trust, not to mention the hilltop lookouts from the 1982 Memorial Wood.
