A very popular arrival point on the northern shores of the Bahamas’ Nassau Island, the Nassau Bahamas Cruise Terminal is an easy place to spot from afar. The colorful terminal offers relaxed pedestrian walkways lined with bright awnings and cobblestone, making it a nice place to go walking at any part of the day. Restaurants and shops are also close, lining the waterfront Woodes Rodgers Walk and its many landmark getaways, giving the region a vibrant atmosphere at night. Public transportation is limited to the Nassau Water Taxi, which drops off passengers along the shoreline, private vehicle rentals like sedans, vans and SUVs offering intimate tours across the region through basic vehicles. Meet-and-greet services are also great for getting drop offs at any given point, local personal drivers adding unique perspectives on historic 18th-century landmarks and luxury limousines with swanky arrivals to the island’s most exclusive restaurants on Bay Street.

Truly get immersed in the city’s rich backdrop by taking a tour through its most renown landmarks, from slave-built structures echoing back to the region’s dark past, to beloved restaurants and vendors offering an opportunity to meet the locals. Some of these vendors can be found through the cruise port’s adjacent Prince George Wharf, a preclude to Parliament Square’s palm-filled gardens resting outside a stoic pastel building, the nearby Pompey Museum offering the same architecture but covered with graffiti street art, its interior showcasing the history of the island’s 18th-century slave auctions. Other interesting structures can be found more inland, including the jail-turned-library at Nassau Public Library, as well as the sad but beautiful experience of climbing the Queen’s Staircase. For something a bit more natural, walk across the inviting lawns of Ardastra Gardens on the distant west side, finally ending the afternoon with dinner at one of many popular waterfront restaurants close to the cruise port, the most popular option seafood restaurant being Twin Brothers.
