A good place to start the day is the port-side neighborhood of Fort, home to a wide array of cool exhibits that include Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Museum’s views into ancient Hindu religions from past to present, the more modern Jehangir Art Gallery showcasing modern takes on old thoughts. Continue toward the water’s edge afterward, nearing the Gateway of India Mumbai for placid views of the bay from a simple place, afterward admiring English influence along the way through the old 19th-century architecture around Wellington Fountain. A central urban-greenbelt breezeway known as the Oval Maidan separates Fort from the western Churchgate neighborhood, a beachside cluster of old churches visible from the famed waterfront Marine Drive, where tourists can walk amongst the famous Queen’s Necklace and rest along the shores of Girgaon Chowpatty Beach.
