A South Pacific haven part of the British territories of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan de Cunha, the beauty of Inaccessible Island is that it is actually accessible, but only by a few beaches made of boulder. Mostly appearing as a fortress, the island is mainly known by the few hundred residents that live in the small English settlement of Edinburgh 25 miles east along the north shore of Tristan de Cunha. Cruise ships can access the region through a seven-day voyage from South Africa, likely docking along Edinburgh’s charming Calshot Harbour. Smaller boats can tender guests ashore, as can a few locals; for added security, it is suggested to travel with a friend.

If the island can in fact be accessed, guests will find a lack of roads as well as an abundant wildlife, among several miles of walkable beaches. No reservations are required, as there are no restaurants, shops or hotels to enjoy the day, though it is suggested that guests bring a good pair of hiking shoes, bug spray and pants. Another side of the island, visitors can find epic waterfalls cascading down a lush precipice, peaceful interior fields home to tranquil clearings and a few fruit trees. Bird-watchers have a lot to look forward throughout the region as well, including large colonies of penguins, the massive wingspan of albatrosses and the signature black coat of the flightless Inaccessible Island Rail.
