Ilhabela is an island off the coast of Southern Brazil, home to dozens of square miles of lush untamed jungle, small mountains and a single coastline community, easily accessible by land or sea. Ilhabela City, a populous port town, rests on the north end of the island, and is the chief arrival point for cruise ships passing through. A narrow strait of water dubbed ‘Canal de Sao Sebastião’ rests between Ilhabela City and the mainland, making quick ferry transfers to the parallel port town a breeze. Upon arrival, guests will likely be hollered by multiple taxi and shuttle companies; avoid the chaos by staying prepared ahead of time, choosing between private transfers like sedans, vans and chartered buses for the chance to see things with a steady pace, or taking advantage of meet-and-greet services for the option to hop in and out of quick taxis, also taking the slow route with a local personal driver.

Over a dozen landmarks are located along the waterfront coastline perfect for discovering a good blend of historic, urban and natural landmarks that make the island an easy one to spend the entire day in. Closest to the cruise port are several unique parks located within a couple miles from one another; these include Ilhabela State Park’s bright white-sand forested hiking trails and Trail Baipi Pico’s rewarding views from a challenging incline. And immensely popular with tourists is the somewhat isolated Cabras Island Beach (Praia da Ilha Das Cabras), a sandy oasis with several scenic beach fronts and rentable umbrellas. Continue a day of leisure with dinner from Ilhabela City’s most beloved restaurants afterward, whether that means grabbing lively seafood at Pimenta de Cheiro Restaurant’s instantly lovable location right by the cruise port, or slightly further buffet bites from the vibrant Restaurant do Cura.
