Along one of many isles across the waters of West Norway, the charming town of Ålesund offers astonishing glimpses of nature among humble seaside townsfolk. Beside downtown’s shore rests The Ålesund Norway Cruise Ship Pier, where attendees of cruise ships can discover an array of instant attractions, whether it be soaring hilltop structures or an array of scenic boat houses. Before venturing into town, understand how to do so, choosing between public transportation ranging from the extensive routes of the Ålesund Bus Station a few minutes walking distance or high-speed boat rides through scenic fjords courtesy of the Ålesund Fast Boat Terminal. More personal alternatives include simple sedans, vans and SUVs that offer self-guided viewpoints, meet-and-greet services only adding to the convenience with drop offs ranging from stretched limousines chauffeured by drivers who know the importance of elegant arrivals, to local personal drivers with a knack for finding the city’s best hidden nooks.

A town devastated by fire the year before Norway declared its independence, the western and eastern islands of Ålesund were mostly destroyed in 1904 - upon its rebuilding, architects at once re-created the town in the style of both Nordic and Art Nouveau architecture, giving the small space an especially universal feel. Start exploring with what’s close to the cruise port, moving about the east island’s famed exhibits like the Alesund Museum’s showcase of arctic wildlife and old mariner life, while the much closer Art Nouveau Town offers a stage-like quality. One more cool east island attraction is the famed views from Kniven, home to hundreds of steps and a glimmering lookout of the town’s renown hook shape from a historic bunker, while the West Island offers even more cool landmarks, especially popular ones being the historic Fisheries Museum in Ålesund as well as the calm evening lookouts from the small but impactful Molja Lighthouse.
