The Punta Cana National Airport is one of only three airports that offers direct flights to Russia from Latin America, and ranks as the second busiest airport in the Caribbean.
The airport was recently expanded to three open terminals in 2011, with a fourth planned to be constructed in 2015. The airport serves over 50 airlines, and offers international flights all over the globe, including direct flights to Canada, Paris, Russia, and the US. The soon-to-be-constructed fourth terminal is designed specifically to hold larger aircraft, with 8 different air bridges, including two air bridges for the massive A380 Airbus.
The airport itself is located on the Eastern tip of the Dominican Republic, and is less than a two hour drive to the nation’s capital city of Santo Domingo. Transportation can be acquired on-site through Hertz, Avis, Budget, Dollar, and Europcar car rentals. Shuttle service is also complimentary for the luxurious Four Points Sheraton Hotel.
