The airport houses a main terminal lobby from which buses, known as Wiki Wikis, will transport passengers to the 47 gates in three terminals. There are more than five Federal and Governmental agencies at the airport, including Customs and Border Patrols.
With average temperatures in the 70s and 80s year round Honolulu’s beautiful climate and fabulous beaches make it one of the United States’ premier travel destinations. Honolulu is home to the Honolulu Zoo, the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Waikiki Beach and the Waikiki Aquarium. If you like shopping you can visit Ala Moana, the world’s largest open air shopping center.
When visiting Honolulu make sure to check out Diamond Head. Diamond Head is a volcano located on the island of Oahu. It is a symbol which has gained worldwide recognition. Hawaiians know it as Le?ahi. Its name is thought to come from a combination of “lae”, meaning ‘browridge, promontory’ and “ahi”, for ahi tuna because the ridgeline looks like a tuna’s dorsal fin. Because of its beautiful scenery, Diamond Head has been used in several movies and television shows. Honolulu is made of several different districts. The Downtown area is the center of the city. This is where the state capitol is located. Waikiki is definitely the area tourists visit most. It is home to the white sandy beaches that make Honolulu so Manoa-Makiki is a quiet area which contains the University of Hawaii. Eastern Honolulu is a residential area for the most part. Western Honolulu is a residential area which contains Honolulu International Airport.
The airport houses its own gift shops and outlet stores, more than thirty restaurants and bars, a business conference center, and monetary exchange stations. Unlike many other airports, Honolulu International Airport houses a large sized jail instead of just holding areas. There is even a post office, an insurance company, travel agency and fire station with rescue facilities.
