Connecting Florence To The Rest Of Europe
The Peretola Airport in Florence is one the two airports that serve as a gateway between the Tuscany region of Italy and the rest of Europe. The other airport is the Pisa Airport.
The Peretola Airport also known as Amerigo Vespucci Airport – named in 1990 after the famous Italian cartographer and merchant who is a native of Florence – is a small airport located close to the beautiful Italian city of Florence. The IATA Airport Code of this airport is FLR, ICAO: LIRQ.
The Amerigo Vespucci Airport is a small airport with just one runway. It has a holding area or overshoot area at the end of runway 23, and the major taxiway is located at the end of runway 5. Just as it is the norm in most small airports around the world, in order to reach the parking terminal after landing, planes usually turn around at the end of the runway and taxi back down the runway to get to the parking terminal.
Since the Florence Airport is a small airport, it can only cater from flights coming from and going to cities within Europe only. The Peretola Airport cannot cater for flights coming from and going to other continents such as North America, South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia.
Flights are always available from the Peretola Airport in Florence to major European cities such as Barcelona, Brussels, Paris, Rome, Zurich, Vienna, Amsterdam, Geneva, London, Munich, Moscow, and Stuttgart. And air travelers can also get flights from these European cities to the Peretola Airport in Florence.
Major European airlines like Air Berlin, KLM, Lufthansa, CityJet, Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, Flybe, Austrian Airlines, HOP, and Brussels Airlines ply the route between Florence and most of the major European cities.
Air travelers should not be concerned about the quality of service they will receive at the Peretola Airport. The Peretola Airport is among the first airports in Europe to obtain the UNI EN ISO 9001|2000 certification for the quality of its services.
