With a student to faculty ratio of 14 to 1, Purdue University doesn’t feel like a big school. But almost 30,000 students flock there every semester to learn on their 2,595 acre campus. With so much to see and do on campus and in the surrounding area, it pays to know how to get around.

Ten airlines operate out of Indianapolis International Airport, with destinations all over the world. IND is always adding more nonstop flights to their most popular destinations, so you can skip the annoying layover.

Shuttle buses are available to get to Purdue once you land in Indianapolis. Lafayette Limo Inc. runs between the airport and campus nine times a day, every single day of the year. Star of America also offers nine runs to or from the airport every day, making multiple stops around campus each time.

Purdue University is an airport that is for public use and is in Tippecanoe County. This airport is owned by Purdue University and is 3.7 kilometers southwest of the central business district.

Transportation to and from the university is provided by CityBus which offers rides for the students, staff and faculty of Purdue university. The same rides are also offered to retirees who have a valid Purdue university Photo ID.

CityBus operates under the name of Greater Lafayette Public Transportation Corporation which is a municipal corporation that was established in 1971. It is a contracted partner with Purdue University for purposes of public transportation services. The agreement between CityBus and the university gives the students, staff and faculty unlimited, fare-free access to the bus system.

Another type of bus service is the Peregrine Shuttle Bus which allows students, staff and faculty to ride it to and from the bank, the supermarket, the post office and other shopping areas.

Purdue University
The ground-breaking ceremony for the first building took place in 1871. Five building were completed by 1874, none of which remain standing. University Hall was built in 1877, making it the oldest building still on campus.

In 1891 Purdue was accused of recruiting athletes from boiler shops. Purdue denied the accusations and adopted the name Boilermakers for its athletic teams. Since then many more athletic teams and student organizations have been founded, but they all retain the same air of defiance and fun that inspired their name.

Purdue University, Indianapolis, IN is a public institution founded in 1869. It has an urban type of setting and has a total undergraduate enrollment of twenty nine thousand.

The university is known as a land-grant university because it is the result of a donation of money and land which was accepted by the Indiana General Assembly from John Purdue, a Lafayette businessman. The main campus of the university is the West Lafayette, Indiana campus although the university encompasses four other campuses.

The university comprises of twelve colleges and schools, many of which serve both graduate and undergraduate students. The graduate and professional programs include the College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Pharmacy and Krannert School of Management. Purdue university has the second largest student body enrollment of any university in Indiana and the fourth largest population of international students of any university in the U.S.

West Lafayette
With antiques, wetlands, microbreweries, state parks and more, it’s hard to decide what to do first in West Lafayette. Agritourism is strong in the surrounding areas, offering peaceful retreats, educational tours and plenty of opportunities to taste test excellent food and drink. There are trails crawling with wildlife and more exotic animals at the Colombian Park Zoo.

Take a ride down the Wabash and Erie Canal, or check out Wildcat Creek and stop in for a taste at the winery. There’s a museum for the historic Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811 and the Tippecanoe Courthouse in the heart of downtown is breathtaking.

In downtown you can take art classes, go on a tour of the historic architecture, or explore the city’s oldest churches. For more action, there is plenty of nightlight going on in West Lafayette’s pubs and clubs. Check out the live music available all over town or find a karaoke night and try your hand at being the one up on the stage.

Tapawingo Parkis the perfect spot to lounge away those sunny days and in the winter time their outdoor skating rink is the place to go. If you’re more interested in watching the action that being in on it, look into the performing arts available throughout the year. Plays, ballets, symphonies, orchestras, musicals, and more are all available, most with a student discount.

The following are attractions that are near Purdue University, Indianapolis, IN. The Clegg Memorial Garden overlooks and offers a natural setting that includes oak savanna and prairie restorations. There are beds of plants that are extensive and native to Indiana, wildflowers, labeled trees and nature trails.

Armstrong Park is landscaped and beautiful looking park is named after astronaut Neil Armstrong, a Purdue alumnus. It is a thirty acre park that is located on the southern side of Lafayette. Among the activities in the park are fishing and an Armstrong trail.

The Purdue Horticulture Park offers wooded trails, open grassy areas and meandering streams to explore. This makes it a wonderful retreat place away from the bustle of campus life. The park provides relaxation and sightseeing as it is home to more than three hundred types of plants and trees.
