At a Glance
Aswan International Airport is a dual-terminal, two-floor airport. Most of the airport serves domestic flights, while a small area caters to international travelers. Adorned in traditional Egyptian art and marble flooring, the atrium-lit facility is a small but relaxing space that is rarely crowded. In order for passengers to board their plane, they will be required to take a shuttle bus to the tarmac, then walk up a wheeled staircase. Located about 10 miles from downtown Aswan, travelers will also have to cross the Nile to reach the city center via the Luxor-Aswan Freeway, making ride bookings highly essential.

Meet-Up Locations & Ground Transportation
A good meet-up location is near the Police station, located across from Baggage claim. There is no official form of public transportation into the city, but metered taxis are available outside the pick-up area. As of right now, the average cost of a taxi to downtown Aswan costs anywhere between 150 – 200 EGP. Locals suggest using the Careem app to help find the best rate. Another great way to get around is by booking with us! Consider gas-efficient vehicles like private sedans and SUVs to get through Aswan’s vast sprawl with ease, or stay secure in knowing what’s next with a reliable meet-and-greet service, from local personal drivers who know the desert well, to chauffeured limousines ready and waiting by baggage claim.

ASW Hotels
There are no hotels on-site, but here are some nearby options:

Carpenter House is a 4-minute drive from the airport, offering 2-star amenities – this small guesthouse is located in a Nubian village along the Nile. The women of the village cook for guests, sell authentic artifacts and draw henna on the women. Tigana Hostel is a 10-minute drive from the airport that requires boat transfers, the low-cost option located on the island of Philae within the Nile. Colorfully painted rooms come with kitchens and waterfront views, while access to a rooftop sundeck is available. Happiness House is a 10-minute drive from the airport located on the south end of Philae Island. Rooms offer original murals and river views, while an attached restaurant makes the hotel a buzzy social gathering. And finally, Agilika Lodge is an 11-minute drive from the airport located on the north end of Philae Island. This hotel offers towering vistas from a mountaintop, mosaic bathrooms and a spacious outdoor patio.

What’s Near the Airport?
Temple d’Amon is located just south of the airport on its own island. It is considered to be the oldest temple of King Ramses II. If you’ve got a driver, just tell them to detour here – you won’t regret it! Another cool location on this island is Temple de Manthoulis. It is a lesser known site usually skipped by tour guides. Because of this, you can expect smaller crowds. Temple de Mandoulis was moved by UNESCO after the rising waters of Lake Nasser endangered it. Another cool attraction is the Russian Egyptian Friendship Monument – this epic structure is just five minutes from the airport, and is a symbol of friendship between The Soviet Union and Egypt. You can even ride an elevator to the top of the monument for views of Lake Nasser. Lastly, the Aswan High Dam is the most popular tourist attraction in Aswan, and just a five-minute drive from the airport. Symbolizing a pivot toward Egypt’s new era after the 1952 revolution, it supplies the country with water and electricity.

Aswan Airport, Hub Of The Nile
Aswan International Airport is a small public airport operated by the Egyptian government located 16 km southwest of Aswan, Egypt. It has one paved runway and sits at an elevation of 662 ft. / 198 m (above mean sea level). Nearby is the beautiful Nile River just to the east of Aswan. Operating from Aswan International Airport are EgyptAir and EgyptAir operated by EgyptAir Express flying to Abu, Simbel and Cairo. Additionally, Flynas services flights to Jeddah.

Aswan is the capital of its own Governorate. It has a population of about 1.2 million people. Most of the people are Nubians, and local tribes of Kenzo. Aswan’s name comes from the word "Swan" which in Egyptian means "the market". This is because it was located on a chief trade route into Egypt. Because Aswan is a major hub of the Nile, it provides hospitable access to resorts and attractions. Aswan is Egypt’s third largest city, and the largest in Upper Egypt. Not only is tourism a primary part of the economy there, but aluminum and iron mining are important industries as well. While in Aswan, the availability of a wide variety of fresh spices can be purchased in the local markets.

Magnificent features close to the local hotels include the Nubian Museum which covers an area of 50,000 square meters, 7,000 of which are devoted to the building, while the rest are devoted to gardens and other public spaces and reflecting Nubian culture and civilization. A visual attraction is the Mausoleum of Aga Khan, but it is not open to the public, yet graces the west bank of the Nile. The Aswan High Dam is also a popular tourist spot, built in the 1970s, and is one of the highest embankment dams in the world. There are botanical islands on the Nile near Aswan. The first is Kitchener’s Island and the second is Elephantine, a much larger island, located between Kitchener’s Island and the city of Aswan (east bank).

Many popular hotel stays are The Philae Hotel and the Keylany Hotel but for views of the Nile the Memnon Hotel is a good place to stay. To get to and from your hotel from the Aswan International Airport or ASW you can find many types of vehicles such as private vans and sedan rides.
